A peek at the palette we built upon for our Mountain House guest room..

Shades of rust and cornflower blue were pulled from the drapery to inspire the room's color story, warmed up even further by the grasscloth on the walls

Mocking it up a bit went a long way, allowing us to play with bed linens and accessories that best pulled it all together.

Fresh from the Blue Ridge Mountains comes a favorite guest bedroom in my Mountain House project for lovely - and adventurous! - clients. We went all-in with botanicals, birds and whimsy, building a lush palette inspired by nature.

A playful drapery fabric embroidered with forest creatures and foliage (Into the Woods by @Fabricut) served as the starting point. From there, the room unfolded as we layered in a brick-hued rug, grasscloth wallpaper and local art to round out the space.

Working on a friend's nursery has me nostalgic for my baby's first room - the guest bedroom in my old Brooklyn apartment that I converted to an office, and eventually to my daughter's nursery. I kept the inky charcoal wall color (Day's End by @benjaminmoore) through all three iterations, softening the vibe with airy fabrics, a mix of wood tones and a sprinkling of ochre and mint.

The result was a cozy room that didn't feel small. It felt collected and functional, the walls lined with usable storage and vibrant accessories that I restyled often... a tweak here, a tweak there, as I rocked my girl to sleep.

I'm a sucker for a shot of red.

My favorite is a muted tomato shade, and I found it in this vintage milk canister from a recent hunt (@lafayettemillantiquescenter). It's now an end table in a favorite sunny corner in my home. It dates from the 1930s which is fitting since that's when my house was built.

The daybed perch awaits a new cover but for now a "vintage" Serena & Lily sarong dons the seat (it was never meant for my bum).

I'm in the process of designing a runner for my stairs. The goal is to achieve a balance, keeping in mind the muted coral and ochres downstairs and the teal and pink tones upstairs. I'm opting for something that will disappear a bit into the floors once refinished, yet brings your eye up with a subtle stripe.

The process itself is gratifying, getting to play with a candy rainbow of color swatches.

Oh and let's not forget: #math !

Inspiration for a room can come from anywhere real

Inspiration for a room can come from anywhere really - a pretty fabric, a piece of art. And sometimes it can come from something completely unrelated like a baby romper that's so cute it makes your heart flutter, like this one did.

Its shades of teal and coral have been following me around from home to home for years now. So it felt fitting that they'd make their way into my daughter's nursery (can I still call it that now that she's 3?)

This early collection of fabrics pulls in those shades, during the "anything goes" phase that served as a starting point, shades from the muted to the vibrant (ok mostly vibrant) hoping to work their way in. ❤️

After working in the world of interior design in N

After working in the world of interior design in NYC for nearly a decade, I launched @katesnyderstudio in 2026. My goal is to deliver interior spaces that reflect my clients’ personalities and the way they really live.

Working at firms like @changoandco, @timothywhealon and @frampton_co taught me the ropes: how to make the best use of a space, how to use color and materials strategically, and the importance of measuring (many many times!) Over the years, my own style emerged: a melding of the modern and traditional that feels layered, unique and deeply personal.

With a few new projects underway, I look forward to not only sharing the "final product" here, but also the process of designing, the hunt for vintage finds, the fabric palettes, and a peek behind the curtain, so to speak.
